Did you miss one? You can hear their stories and get to know these women leaders through our YouTube channel (don't forget to subscribe!). What are the challenges for women in leadership today? "We need to be careful that we are not inadvertently creating more roadblocks for more women. I think that is a unique challenge as we get into positions of power. We need to be careful not just to take on the persona of the status quo... women were expected to look like men and to act like men. You were successful if you did that and you rose through the ranks. But how crazy is that? If I look like the guy in power, dress like the guy in power and I do all the things like the guy in power, I must get power. I think it's easy to forget that that's a really bad thing. You need to show up as yourself. And if you can't, it's not the right company for you."

Women in Leadership at MGB By Mary Ann Blackmur, Community Outreach Program Manager for Mass General Brigham The landscape of leadership in the workplace is shifting to include more women in leadership roles that were traditionally held by men. This includes all industries and Mass General Brigham is proud to have at the helm Ann Klibanski, MD , President and Chief Executive Officer since June 2019, Cindy Peterson, MBA, Vice President Regional Ambulatory Operations and Business Development and Kris McCue, Regional Director of Operations for our South Shore locations. Women leaders tend to have a more “holistic approach to leadership and to the organization. This includes balancing financial and performance results with goals of increasing diversity on leadership teams, an inclusive culture, and driving positive change.” [1] These holistic leadership traits have been instrumental during the Covid-19 pandemic in allowing businesses to pivot and adjust as needed to stabilize the effects the pandemic has had on their industry and workforce. All leaders are facing extraordinary workforce challenges as the result of the pandemic. Many employees are juggling childcare , elder care and homeschooling in addition to their job responsibilities. Successful leaders have not only recognized these conflicts but listened to their employees to come up with solutions that meet the business and their employees’ needs. Remote work, flexible schedules are just a few strategies that have succeeded to date. “ Keeping the needs of our patients front and center , wherever we can we strive to be a flexible employer , we care for our patients by caring for our team” Cindy Peterson, MBA, VP Regional Ambulatory Operations and Business Development. As we navigate the “new normal” the holistic approach of women leaders will be instrumental in ensuring that the business needs are being met while considering the personal needs of their employees to create a harmonious working environment. We are suggesting a break in tradition for 2021 regarding the Chair, First Vice-Chair and Immediate Past Chair. These are normally only one-year terms. We are asking Renee McInnes, Deirdre Savage and Jim Dunphy to continue their current positions next year. The Chamber’s year is not very different than what many of our members have gone through. We have not stopped. We have made progress on several fronts and found new ways to serve members. It has been a year of quick adjustments with some projects and programs being put on hold until more normal operations can resume. To move through the remainder of the COVID era while keeping focused on our strategic plan the Executive Committee, Board and management feels it is better to keep those three positions in place for next year. We appreciate all three agreeing to that plan. Working with such a diverse group of businesses in a broad swath of industries is what I love most. While most people can claim no two days are alike, I may deal in financial services, juvenile products, tech start-ups and hospitality all in the course of a few hours. As a 2020 Executive Board member, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to working on or hoping to achieve? Helping drive the 2020 plan, which is so key to the region’s future. What was the last great book you read? or a favorite movie/TV show you'd recommend? The funniest program I’ve seen in sometime is Schitt’s Creek. There’s such a richness to the characters who at first offensive, turn endearing. It’s crass, clever and compelling all at once. Joseph Gratta, CEO Atlantic Mechanical Contractors What is your favorite thing about your career? I’m incredibly fortunate to maintain a career with many distinct roles, responsibilities and people. As the CEO and General Counsel for Atlantic Mechanical, I spend my time building the systems, client base and brand of the company while managing our teams and handling policy decisions. I serve in a similar role with Gratta Property Management, however, I spend more time on real estate development, zoning/property law, and financing projects. Every day is a little different for me, and I’d say that’s my favorite part of my career. As a 2020 Executive Board member, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to working on or hoping to achieve? The Chamber, along with the SSEDC, do so much for the community, and while its reputation is rather sterling, I don’t think enough people realize the size of the impact we create. I’d like to see the recognition and funding become more commensurate with the missions and accomplishments of the Chamber. And we can do that through more concise messaging, which Jill Donovan has already made tremendous progress on, and more focused programming/events. What was the last great book you read? or a favorite movie/TV show you'd recommend? Right now I’m in the middle of a book called Sapiens which is excellent. It’s essentially the history of human beings from a scientific perspective. As far as TV goes I’m a Seinfeld fanatic- there will never be a better sitcom. Brian Molisse, Owner Molisse Realty Group LLC http://www.molisserealty.com What is your favorite thing about your career? I love helping my clients and my agents & staff achieve their Goals As a 2020 Executive Board member, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to working on or hoping to achieve? Help bring more individuals and local companies to the chamber. I feel it has so much to offer to everyone. What was the last great book you read? Favorite movie? The E Myth Revised by Michael E Gerber and Favorite movie The Green Book. James Dunphy, Chief Executive Officer South Shore Bank http://www.sssb.com Immediate Past Chairman of SSCC Board What is your favorite thing about your career? Helping our clients fulfill their financial needs and the ability to have a positive impact on our community.
