MASS GENERAL BRIGHAM SHARES THEIR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION JOURNEY AND STRATEGIES WITH SOUTH SHORE LEADERS Leadership South Shore, a program of South Shore Bank and South Shore Chamber of Commerce, hosted its third Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Day on March 15, 2023. We were fortunate to have Mass General Brigham partner with us on this special day. It was a full day focusing on creating an inclusive work environment through DEI initiatives and education. The morning began with Ciara Gogan, Senior Manager; of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging for CarGurus AND Leadership South Shore Steering Committee, introducing the DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) concept and movement. Next, Jarrod Chin & Taylor Goyette-Frechette from Mass General Brigham led a multi-hour training, including conversations and exercises around cultural humility, workforce DEI implications, personal filters, and tools to implement in our businesses and life. Their section concluded with Carla Carten, Interim Senior VP and Chief DEI Officer at Mass General Brigham, sharing the health system “Journey to United Against Racism” initiative. The Leadership South Shore cohort met to discuss an important and timely topic, diversity and inclusion. Meeting at the South Shore Bank headquarters in Weymouth, they heard from thought leaders in the DEI field. The day started with a presentation and group activities facilitated by Ciara Gogan of Global Partners LP, and a terrific lunch from Fasano's before the second part of the day started. The panel, moderated by Ciara, explored various DEI topics, like creating and maintaining healthy workplace cultures and strategies to build DEI awareness. Panelists included:
  Leadership South Shore was established in 2016 by South Shore Bank in partnership with the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. This celebrated program selects participants from a pool of applicants and leads them through a yearlong immersive learning curriculum, resulting in a group of individuals who are committed to transformative leadership in our community. This year marks the 5th Anniversary of Leadership South Shore, and we are proud of the more than 100 highly motivated graduates whose commitment to using their knowledge has made a positive change in the region. Leadership South Shore is not a starting point, but rather a process for emerging and established leaders to connect and inspire others to increase civic engagement, build vibrant communities and strengthen the South Shore and beyond.
