![]() Leadership South Shore was established in 2016 by South Shore Bank in partnership with the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. This celebrated program selects participants from a pool of applicants and leads them through a yearlong immersive learning curriculum, resulting in a group of individuals who are committed to transformative leadership in our community. This year marks the 5th Anniversary of Leadership South Shore, and we are proud of the more than 100 highly motivated graduates whose commitment to using their knowledge has made a positive change in the region. Leadership South Shore is not a starting point, but rather a process for emerging and established leaders to connect and inspire others to increase civic engagement, build vibrant communities and strengthen the South Shore and beyond. Meet the current cohort and see what they've been doing

Our first office was in Hanson, in 2008. After completing her DMD and residency in Boston, Dr. Freeman took on a dental practice that had been a fixture in Hanson for over 50 years. Over time, we expanded to locations in Cohasset, Abington and Weymouth. What products or services do you offer? We offer general and specialty dentistry through a tightly knit group of doctors who work closely together to create a "dental home" for our patients. Our focus is on whole body health and how oral health enhances overall health. What’s the one thing your business is known for, over your competitors and why? We provide personalized, compassionate care. Our offices recognize the needs of our individual patients and work to create a partnership with them based on compassion, health and great smiles. Tell us an interesting and fun tidbit about your business. Purple is our favorite! It's not only part of our look and feel, but somehow always happened to be present in the offices we have taken on over the years -- whether it was the front door, or some other distinguished feature, we could always tell when an office was the right fit for our team. Why did you decide to become involved with the Chamber? As a small business and community member, we truly understand the challenges that we all face and want to contribute to helping others achieve success. We believe that relationships, charity and service are critical for any small business and incorporate those tenets throughout our practices.
![]() How and when did the company get started? In 2009, Matthew Martin and family were living in Northern Minnesota, Matthew serving a church as an ordained Lutheran Pastor. During their first vacation in 5 years, Matthew’s wife had a dream, woke up and said, “We need to move to New England.” Matthew called the New England Bishop of the Lutheran Church and got placed in a church in Quincy, MA. During the first 18 months of his tenure in Quincy, the local Lutheran churches were going through a process called Doing What Matters and pastors were challenged to “go where love leads and serve where love calls”. Matthew had done World Hunger work for 17 years and felt compelled to leave the ministry and work to end hunger in New England. He did some research, met the CEO/Founder of The Outreach Program and started EndHungerNE in 2010 – and has led the feeding over 37 million underserved New Englanders and counting since then. What products or services do you offer? We package 10 different USDA approved meal types for those who hunger in our neighborhoods. The meals are packaged 100% by volunteers and distributed to food pantries, school backpack and similar programs who then distribute the meals to those in need. Funding for the purchase of the raw materials to create the meals is provided through the generosity of companies, organizations and individuals. What’s the one thing your business is known for, over your competitors and why? We are the only meal packaging non-profit that gives 95% of its meals nationwide to local food pantries. EndHungerNE has ten meal varieties to accommodate meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most other similar organizations have one meal type. Tell us an interesting and fun tidbit about your business. Since our start up on the South Shore in 2010, we have fed 4.3 million people in Plymouth County and 705,000 people in Norfolk County - both of these counties served by the South Shore Chamber. Why did you decide to become involved with the Chamber? To gain more exposure for what we do to help feed the underserved in our South Shore community (and beyond). And hopefully get more organizations involved in volunteering and funding. There is an ongoing unmet need to eliminate hunger in children and families across the South Shore, Massachusetts and New England! |
