Welcome, Crossroads, Glow Beauty Boutique, and Northwestern Mutual! Thank you to Rockland Trust, O’Connor & Drew PC, National Fire Protection Association, and South Shore YMCA for their continued support of the Partnership program. We held our first Coffee Connections of the year at NVNA and Hospice last week. NVNA will be celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! Leadership South Shore Alumni Event at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke. A mixed group of 40 from the alumni and current cohorts got together to network and share best practices around leadership qualities and ways to navigate challenging situations. Check out our Facebook social impact campaign , #LeapOfKindnessDay, to support our NPO Group members. What will YOU do with your extra day? Peter caught up with Congressman Lynch this week and they are working on a convenient time for him to address the Chamber. This President's Day weekend we thought of the Chamber's Past Chair George Toma. He stepped off our Executive Committee in December but we recalled that in the spirit of George Washington he often brought cherry pies to our February meetings. We kept the tradition alive with small pies for our officers this morning. (Larger, fresher pies are handed out at George Washington Toma in Weymouth .... but don't tell him we sent you.) Peter attended a meeting of the Abington Planning Board that was reviewing a proposed development by the Karsten Company of Weymouth. The proposed 150 apartments and small retail shops would be next to the train stop and add some nice energy and new investment into the area. The Committee will be continuing discussions with the developer. Andrew Sullivan of Protectowire held an open house to unveil his proposals for a new community center in Pembroke Center. Andrew has been a champion for Pembroke and creating a new center for all the residents of town. The Government Affairs Committee met this week. Long-time Chair Deirdre Savage of Blue Cross Blue Shield is stepping down and David Robinson of Ruberto, Israel & Weiner will be stepping into the Chairmanship. Peter also attended a small meeting of local business and healthcare officials with Lt. Governor Polito who spoke about the Governor’s proposed healthcare initiative. Two pillars of his plan are to pump more money into increasing access to primary care physician and services for mental health. The Human Resources Group Advisory Team met and finalized programming for this year. We kick off with a networking get-together at Player’s on 2/27. We encourage anyone in HR or anyone who performs that function at their organization to join us for any of the events. Read more about HRG here! Planning for the Hingham PizzaPalooza is underway. It will be held on March 25th at the Hingham High School with ticket sales benefitting South Shore SNAP. MARK YOU CALENDAR!
