I can see it growing every year." Last night, 25 South Shore Chamber members visited three of our EAT South Shore participants located in Cohasset. The generosity of bia bistro, Lenny's Hideaway, and Red Lion Inn was truly wonderful and guests were able to enjoy food, drink, and great conversation as we spent about 30 minutes at each location. ![]() Dr. Mark Melnick of The Donahue Institute spoke at our Economic Outlook breakfast co-sponsored with Envision Bank. We are pleased to share his presentation which included some nice comparisons on how the South Shore stacks up with the rest of the state on key economic factors. It validated some of our work on South Shore 2030 to make the region economically stronger. We were particularly impressed with three slides:
South Shore Chamber of Commerce and EAT South Shore to host Oct. 3rd “Hogtoberfest 2: Battle of the BBQ”; seven chefs to vie for “best pit master” title
Final details are now in the works for Thursday, October 3rd when the South Shore Chamber of Commerce (www.southshorechamber.org) and EAT South Shore (www.eatsouthshore.com) will host “Hogtoberfest 2: Battle of the BBQ” at the South Shore Country Club, 274 South Street in Hingham. The second annual outdoor event, slated from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. will feature local chefs BBQing in friendly competition, battling it out to be named the best pit master. The competitors will roast whole pigs or proteins of their choice in their own unique styles in a quest for the Blue Ribbon. Local restaurants will provide side dishes and regional craft breweries will also be on hand, offering samples of their wares. The event is open to the public, ages 21+. All attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite BBQ. Participating chefs include those from Alma Nove, The Greenside Grille, Lucca South Shore, Players Sports Bar, The Quarry, Sarcastic Swine BBQ & Catering and Trident Galley & Raw Bar. Beverages will be provided by Stellwagen Beer Co., Shakesbeer Beverages, Downeast Cider, Ohza Mimosas and Second Wind Brewing Co. Side dishes will be courtesy of 110 Grill Braintree, Clandestine Kitchen, Lucca South Shore, Jac’s Café and Wahlburgers. Advance Individual tickets at $50 per person and group tickets for parties of six at $250 are now available; ticket price includes samplings of BBQ, side dishes and beverages. Event shirts will be available for $20 and a portion of the proceeds will go toward an EAT South Shore scholarship for a local culinary arts student. A goal of 200 shirts sold will guarantee a $1,000 scholarship. Get your tickets now for what promises to be one of the best – and best tasting – evenings of the season.
