Chamber Board of Directors Nominations

11/3/2020

The Nominating Committee of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce is pleased submit a slate of Officers and Directors for terms starting January 1, 2021. Under our bylaws additional names can be placed before the board through a petition bearing signatures of 75 members in good standing. Candidates will be presented to the Chamber’s Board of Directors at their November meeting.

We are suggesting a break in tradition for 2021 regarding the Chair, First Vice-Chair and Immediate Past Chair. These are normally only one-year terms. We are asking Renee McInnes, Deirdre Savage and Jim Dunphy to continue their current positions next year. The Chamber’s year is not very different than what many of our members have gone through. We have not stopped. We have made progress on several fronts and found new ways to serve members. It has been a year of quick adjustments with some projects and programs being put on hold until more normal operations can resume. To move through the remainder of the COVID era while keeping focused on our strategic plan the Executive Committee, Board and management feels it is better to keep those three positions in place for next year. We appreciate all three agreeing to that plan.

Nominated as Officers for terms ending December 31, 2021
Chair – Renee McInnes , NVNA and Hospice
Vice Chair – Deirdre Savage, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts
Treasurer – Michelle Hatch, PozerskiHatch & Company
Immediate Past Chair – James Dunphy, South Shore Bank
Cate Adams - Eastern Bank
Richard Fernandez - Beth Israel Deaconess – Milton
Joseph Gratta - Atlantic Mechanical
David Robinson - Ruberto, Israel & Weiner, P.C.
Bonnie Simmons - Citrin Cooperman

Nominated as Directors for terms ending December 31, 2023
Kaitlin Clifford – Jack Conway & Company

I am pleased to announce that the South Shore Chamber has joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on a national initiative to help address inequality through economic opportunity. Business leaders and chambers across the country have been discussing how the private sector can contribute to the solution of this issue. The U.S. Chamber initiative is taking a broader look at how private sector leaders can improve economic opportunity for everyone.

To learn more about this U.S. Chamber program, please view their press release here.

Massport CEO Lisa Weiland speaking to attendees during a lunch in the SeaportMassport CEO, Lisa Weiland
The Chamber’s Housing Committee had our first meeting for 2020 at The Watson in Quincy.  Thanks to NeighborWorks Housing Solutions for hosting and to our committed volunteer group of experts for helping us to move our Housing Initiative forward.

Peter was in DC over the weekend through Tuesday for some meetings with the U.S. Chamber.  He had a chance to visit the National Museum of African American History. Timing was nice as he just finished The Warmth of Other Suns about the Great Migration of African Americans from the South to the North from the World War 1 era up to the 1970’s.  He recommends both.  If you go to the museum though give yourself several hours – there is a lot to see and read.

Courtney attended a lunch in Boston’s Seaport with new Massport CEO, Lisa Wieland. She talked about the importance of connecting with the business community and provided some updates on existing projects and the authority’s strategic initiatives moving forward. Did you know that if you take the water taxi (think Hull or Hingham) to the aiport, you can get a “ticket to skip” to the front of the security line at Logan? Check it out!

Hull is moving forward with a development strategy around the DCR Park and Carousel.  Peter attended a meeting of the Board of Selectman and various local committees to hear a presentation on the plan.  It is a solid plan that makes sense.  He’ll be posting some more information on the website next week.

Leadership South Shore Class of 2020 attended Economic Development Day on Tuesday, January 28. First stop was hosted by Conway Country in Norwell. Rich Beal, CEO of A.W. Perry gave a presentation update on commercial and housing. New owners of the Plymouth & Brockton Bus line, Win Sargent and John Cogliano, provided an update on their plans to innovate and growth the P&B Bus routes. Current cohort members gave updates from their perspective development roles including Lisa Berardinelli from Hanover Crossing/PREP, Curtis Webb from Bristol Bros. Development, Patrick Brady from Cornerstone Realty Capital, Bill Kingdon from Ellis Realty, and Tom Osuch from South Shore Bank. Second stop took the 25-person cohort to Rock Solid Tops fabrication and design showroom in Pembroke. Final stop of the day was a bus tour led by Rich Beal of Union Point in South Weymouth.

Meet Our 2020 Chair, Renee McInnes

1/8/2020

Our new 2020 Chair, Renee McInnes of NVNA and Hospice
Renee has served as Chief Executive Officer of NVNA and Hospice since July 2016. Renee has over 30 years clinical and management experience in home care and acute care settings. Her tenures at NVNA and Hospice have included vice president of business development, director admissions/marketing, nurse case manager, and Alzheimer’s specialty team leader.  Renee also launched and directed NVNA Works, providing private duty care to the community.

In addition to her NVNA and Hospice career, Renee has been a clinical case manager at Tufts New England Medical Center and a clinical liaison for New England Sinai Hospital.

Since 2016 Renee has served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the Board of Home Care Alliance and is an Executive Committee member for the Visiting Nurse Association of New England.  She also serves on the National Association of Home Care Advocacy and Government Affairs Council.  An RN, she is currently pursuing an MBA and is a graduate of the Suffolk University Emerging Leaders Program and Harvard Business School’s Leadership for Senior Executives Program.

What is your favorite thing about your career?
As CEO of an innovative non-profit home health and hospice agency, I am honored to lead an organization that provides much needed services for our patients, in particular, at the end-of-life. The increased use of technology supports patient satisfaction and quality for our patients. The mission remains the same, to care for our patients and the community with the best quality of care possible.  As a nurse, the staff and patients inspire me every day with their compassionate stories of healing and support. The generous donors also inspire me, without them, the Pat Roche Hospice Home would not remain viable to provide the charitable care that is needed for so many.

As our 2020 Chair, what is the one thing you are most looking forward to/hoping to achieve?
As 2020 Chair, my goal is to consistently message to the south shore community the value of the Chamber. Not only for South Shore businesses, but for housing, work force development and our regional economy.  I want the business community to understand how the important work they do supports all of us who live and work here. Another goal is to increase the engagement of the Board members to support the strategic initiatives.

What was the last great book you read? Movie/TV show you watched?
I recently read The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World by Melinda Gates. Her messages are about inclusion, connection, empathy, education, and most importantly not judging others’ cultures and values. She urges readers to help educate women to achieve what is important to them, resulting in their highest quality of life.

She can be reached at [email protected].
