The Leap of Kindness Day project is an initiative created by chambers of commerce across the country. Here at the South Shore Chamber, we continually strive to stay on top of best practices and ways to benefit our own 1200 + members, so we’re asking our 4600 + Facebook Followers to try a #LeapofKindness by answering “What will you do with your extra day this year? Try a #LeapofKindness.” The call to action is twofold. We are asking nonprofit organization members to post their needs so that regional communities and the Chamber’s social followers can help meet those needs. Items that are needed so far include everything from jams and jelly and hygiene products for local food pantries to “liking” social media to stay informed. The social media community can then review the requests and choose how or what to support. The goal is to have the Kindness Campaign spread across the South Shore, including the Chamber’s Followers and Facebook Followers of individual member nonprofits, so together we can make an impact, not just in one day but hopefully beyond. Laurie Maranian is Chair of the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Group of the South Shore Chamber, an industry group within the Chamber with a mission to collaborate, advocate for shared interests and promote the visibility of nonprofits. She is calling the #LeapofKindness initiative “a creative way to engage and hopefully discover new supporters,” adding, “we’re so grateful to the Chamber for taking the lead and leveraging their social presence to help us foster connections and tell our stories.” "It was fun! Very successful!!" "Great event!" "I had an awesome time and met some great people as well!" "I really enjoyed it and loved the event!" "I had a great time at the Frozen Stroll. I can see it growing every year." Last night, 25 South Shore Chamber members visited three of our EAT South Shore participants located in Cohasset. The generosity of bia bistro, Lenny's Hideaway, and Red Lion Inn was truly wonderful and guests were able to enjoy food, drink, and great conversation as we spent about 30 minutes at each location. Darlene Hollywood, Principal Hollywood Agency What is your favorite thing about your career? Working with such a diverse group of businesses in a broad swath of industries is what I love most. While most people can claim no two days are alike, I may deal in financial services, juvenile products, tech start-ups and hospitality all in the course of a few hours. As a 2020 Executive Board member, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to working on or hoping to achieve? Helping drive the 2020 plan, which is so key to the region’s future. What was the last great book you read? or a favorite movie/TV show you'd recommend? The funniest program I’ve seen in sometime is Schitt’s Creek. There’s such a richness to the characters who at first offensive, turn endearing. It’s crass, clever and compelling all at once. Joseph Gratta, CEO Atlantic Mechanical Contractors What is your favorite thing about your career? I’m incredibly fortunate to maintain a career with many distinct roles, responsibilities and people. As the CEO and General Counsel for Atlantic Mechanical, I spend my time building the systems, client base and brand of the company while managing our teams and handling policy decisions. I serve in a similar role with Gratta Property Management, however, I spend more time on real estate development, zoning/property law, and financing projects. Every day is a little different for me, and I’d say that’s my favorite part of my career. As a 2020 Executive Board member, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to working on or hoping to achieve? The Chamber, along with the SSEDC, do so much for the community, and while its reputation is rather sterling, I don’t think enough people realize the size of the impact we create. I’d like to see the recognition and funding become more commensurate with the missions and accomplishments of the Chamber. And we can do that through more concise messaging, which Jill Donovan has already made tremendous progress on, and more focused programming/events. What was the last great book you read? or a favorite movie/TV show you'd recommend? Right now I’m in the middle of a book called Sapiens which is excellent. It’s essentially the history of human beings from a scientific perspective. As far as TV goes I’m a Seinfeld fanatic- there will never be a better sitcom. |
